HC-11 is a synthetic calcined cordierite, non-alkali aluminosilicate that possesses a very low positive expansion coefficient. It is stable to temperatures in excess of 1300°C.
Application
HC-11 is used for making low expansion, highly refractory kiln furniture, such as setters, saggers, and car tops. The low thermal expansion (less than 1 x 10-6 / °C) of HC-11 results in ceramic shapes that withstand repeated rapid thermal cycling in fast fire kilns. A reduction in cycle time not only provides extended product life but potentially reduce in energy consumption.
As a derivative, HC-11 can also be used as a seed for “in-situ” (grown) cordierite. This method can substantially reduce the thermal expansion of your typical product. A reduction in expansion of 50% to 70% can be typical results from this application.
HC-11 is also used as a filler for plastic and resin systems to reduce the over-all expansion of the system and to increase the thermal conductivity that facilitates heat dissipation. Systems containing HC-11 also exhibit low WEC values making it ideal for automotive uses.Type your paragraph here
